"a little cloud in an otherwise blank blue sky" by Aaron BlairEverything beautiful in this world
is in a cage, made inconsequential
and toothless by just our will to tame.
Cherubs, rounded, bereft of any planes
or angles, grin at me with empty gums,
so I will know that they are safe to love,
to clutch to a bosom filled with fear
of anything that may violently resist me.
Life has become white and soft, a room
made of cushions, balled up tissue paper,
the kind chestless girls shove into their shirts.
It cradles me while I dream of choirs singing
notes so high that no mortal could ever reach them.
It's a fiction, a concoction, a watercolor.
My lungs fill with it. I drown in pastel paint. 07/19/2005 Author's Note: I couldn't think of a title, so I stole Maria "QueenDisko" Weissbord's description of it.

Posted by Christina Gleason on 07/20/05 at 01:39 PM I swear I was going to use the word "juxtaposition" before I even read Teri's comment. I really, really like this. The rhythm/sound is great - especially in the all of the "a" sounds in the first five lines or so (cage / tame / plane / safe). Awesome. |
Posted by Ava Blu on 07/22/05 at 03:10 AM you stole the perfect line for the title! this is rather exquisite. the last 2 lines ring in my ears; that's a good thing. |
