You and I

by Thomas K. Hunt

You and I
Grew up together
Sharing our colds
In cold, cold weather
There wasn't anything
We couldn't do
Then you left me for somebody new

I should have done things
A little bit different
But there I go
Singing that same sad song
Only to find out
That you're not listening
Somebody tell me what I did wrong

I packed up and got away from you
Not knowing where to go
Or what to do
We used to love to sit back and dream
About the places and times
Our love would bring

Then somebody woke you and broke us apart
And in the process
He stole your heart
Somebody, anybody, I just don't care
Wake me up
Please wake me up
And tell me
This must be a nightmare

You and I
Grew up together
Sharing a love
I thought it was forever
There wasn't anything
We couldn't do
But then you left me
For somebody new
Oh, how could you?
