Reno

by Leonard M Hawkes

At 6:00 a. m.
In the cool
In the quiet,
We celebrate
Day's arrival
Along the Truckee--
Contemplatively,
The joggers,
The homeless,
The restless,
Early risers
Like me--
But after Mass,
Scattering,
We're swallowed up
By worldly heat,
Lost temporarily
From identity.
