Gate

by Uriel Tovar

Our eyes were melting
revealing infinity,
a broken line,
a wall of inhibitions
forced down our minds
recognition of soul's
dawning break.

We echo through these moments
frightened and fragile children
growing
into splintered beasts,
longing for a moment
to reveal
our buried humanity.

Sun against pines
casting long shadows
‘cross a crowd of faces
burnt by the only son
that shone ancient eyes,
uncertain doors
padlocked.

These men hunched over,
entranced,
Eden through a key hole
paradise locked away
a mirage that refused to fade.
