My Name is Yesterday

by Jane E Pearce

My name is yesterday,
the past is my home,
the road to tomorrow
is littered with flesh and bone.
.
My words are piled neatly,
locked in time's box, along
with men's travails-
famines, wars, and the pox.

Yes, the cause of today. There won't be a present if there wasn't a past, present being the effect of the cause, past.
