The Lament for Icarus by T.J. CarverSon of Daedalus, why sleep you so?
The nereids weep and drag you shore.
What Icarian dream tempted you so?
the nereids weep and drag you ashore.
Merciful Hyperion melted not your wings,
Yet you fell into Poseidon's realm.
Your beauty matched only by your spirit,
Yet you fell into Poseidon's realm.
You failed to heed your father's call:
Fly not too close to the sun.
A successful escape marred by tragedy:
Fly not too close to the sun.
The nereids weep as they drag you ashore,
Broken, do ye rest at the foot of Olympus?
Merciful Hyperion melted not your wings,
Broken, do ye rest at the foot of Olympus? 11/11/2003 Author's Note: Inspired by Draper's Lament for Icarus. A wonderful painting, it inspired me instantly. It's the only actual work of "art" that I hang in my room.
