Mother

by T.J. Carver

Sing to me, my dear sweet mother.
Of childhood smiles and none other.

Even now your voice is sweet.
Though the shadows you'll soon meet.

Under star and under moon
I fear that you'll be gone too soon.

"Mother, mother, please don't go,
Father's here, but he doesn't know.

His one true love won't shine for long."
Through tears he asks if he's done wrong.

Hear me Angel gowned in white,
What ties have severed on this night?
