The Crayon Cycle

by T.J. Carver

The Green is in its prime today,
sighing with each new beginning,
trying hard to touch the Blue.
Yellow smiles its brilliant hue

one last time as Green starts to fade.
Brown and Red shall here reside.
Harsh gods blow them out of view.
Yellow smiles its brilliant hue

even as the day takes away
all hope of any lustrous sheen,
leaving White and Black to few.
Yellow smiles its brilliant hue

as once again its children made,
Red and Brown and Green live.
Reaching for their Mother Blue.
Yellow shines its brilliant hue.
