My Friend

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

Beginning the walk slowly
we marched the road of life
arm and arm my friend and I
we often wondered why

We pondered all the purposes
reasons we were here
we found in each the other
a place we felt no fear

often it would happen
no time for my one friend
I would wonder how he'd see me
when we met again

then we'd get a moment
we'd meet to speak again
to each the other
never changed because
he was my friend

we did not see the gray
of life
had settled on our heads
we did not see the wrinkles
lined
across the other's face
we seen each other laughing
talking in the sun
we looked back at a time
spent laughing
friends are forever young

then the truth crawled out
from underneath the lie
my friend it broke my heart
I see I too will die

All good men
must come to an end
give back what is lent
to ground
Farewell my friend till we meet again
I'll see you next time around
