Breath Is New

Breath Is New
07.11.2005

Eyes closed, the vivid sight of you
so startling and still like
words without wanting, quiet trails
of lips speaking, not speaking,
all of this nervous skin.

Between my breaths, your movement
is a minor key, swirling new these
red and blue words, hot like our
dipping tongues, the growing-colder
sprawl of hair and limbs

you are here, body extended,
the fingers of a pressing spread,
the ebb and flow of years held back,
bodies new, always changing, always
ready for truth

I wait inside the body of you:
your eyes a darkened pool
of lies I'll never see.
