i eat up your dirty words like incantation spells.

by Wendy Geal

When my lips implant themselves across the acres
Of your lukewarm skin, I am whole again.
Your fingers flutter in the exact rhythm of my pulse
Tied in knots that cease with your heartbeat; numbing--
I eat up your dirty words like incantation spells,
I chew them up, I hear them again&again
I loathe the word goodbye, I chase it out of
My head, lying comatose, love,
unalive
until you stir me up again
I am quite the sleeping beauty
adorned in thorns, where no one can touch me
I linger like
The plague blanketed in rainforest leaves
And rise up out of nowhere
