the facts about daddies and dolls by Bradd Howardsmooth porcelain cheeks stroked by calloused thumbs
leaving dimpled impressions
soft pink lips bowing into shape to form the words "da-da"
for the first time.
Cradled in the crook of an arm
rocked to sleep.
safety could slip at any time
porcelain could crack into pieces and dust on the floor
wide eyes - eye lashes batting slowly
naively trusting
for daddies take care of dolls
don't they? 07/08/2005 Author's Note: so whatcha gonna do?

Posted by Rula Shin on 07/09/05 at 12:44 AM Indeed this has a 'creepy' feel to it for me too, I've never liked porcelain dolls, for their eyes are so static, their skin so cold, like death personified. Now as for daddy's, do they take care of porcelain dolls? All I can say is, what is fragile shall eventually break, daddy or not...will he speed up the process? Will he shatter with intention? Indeed he might, and nothing much can stop him. Chilling write Bradd. I like it a lot. Great job! :-)
Posted by Ava Blu on 07/09/05 at 10:09 PM first line reeled me in. wonderful image you created. i think daddies should always take care of dolls.
Posted by Maryellen Lebeda-Parra on 07/11/05 at 06:53 PM i get a "haunt" out of this too ... must be the little boy in me ... but i was never a doll girl myself ;) i always cut off their hair and made them "rock chicks!" does not mean your work is not good of course ....
