because I slept

by Ava Blu

we’d pour peroxide down your ears
I was always amazed by the yellow fizzle
swooshing onto the tissue

(I wanted more than dirt to come clean)

one night, as you slept,
I poured alcohol down your ear
trying to burn her excess away

in the morning, when you awoke,
you could not hear
as I told you I found a bead
inside my ear

it was shiny as a pearl
perfectly blemished

(it didn’t belong to me)

through tears, I showed you
a picture of her
wearing a necklace
missing a bead.

Author's Note: hmm...where is this going?? The doc really did find a bead in my ear when I was 18.

I'm still sifting thru the layers of this, but i like it. Good job, as always, Jeanna. still, I'm not ready to write a poem about that marble i stuck in my nose as a boy...

Where is it going? I do like the idea of peroxide and alcohol cleaning more than dirt... It's nice. ;o)

I feel as if there is a story here that I will never know the history of, but it's okay because the little bit I am shown is enough to give the idea that there is something more. I love the way you write, you are a true artist. ~Qu
