fingers fumbling in the kitchen

by Bradd Howard

"I invented milk"
fingers fumbling in the kitchen
against the refrigerator and your chest.

repeating things I knew to be factual
"this is my apartment, this is my boyfriend, I'm thirsty. I invented milk in the early part of the century"

gulping liquid out of cartons
kissing away milk mustaches

fumbling fingertips
trying to remember the facts of us

carton slips
standing in a white puddle in the middle of the floor...

I think I remember now.

Author's Note: I invented it. I can cry over spilling it.

"fumbling fingertips trying to remember the facts of us"--great line. I love the author's note as well. Silly is only an opinion. =)

i remember "kissing away milk mustaches" and afterwards we'd both have milk breathe and need gum like nothing else... ah, good times. great piece!

This is wonderful Bradd, I really do like it. In fact, for me one of the best lines of all is in the author's note! "I invented it. I can cry over spilling it" - love it!! Well done my friend and do not only remember but LIVE in that moment of sudden knowing, experience the beauty of "the facts of us" right then and there. Great write, you truly are getting better and better with each write :-)
