I See You (Part I)

by Uriel Tovar

her sunken eyes
sang dirges floating
her casket out to sea.
the lullaby
reminds me of her broken nails in my skin.

she had me by the collar
and i had her on my leash
dragging her down the corridor
--her slipping on wet
stagnant water--
peeling away the green from the wall.

i held her tight
and she melted.
