Forever Is Too Long

by Jersey D Gibson

We all make our promises,
to stay together.
'Till death do us part,
or something like that.

Seperation anxiety,
must be felt all over.
Why can't people stay together,
like we should?

I've found my soulmate,
whom I'll leave for another.
Married the best person for me,
at this particular moment.

One-night stands,
and blind dates.
Internet relationships,
and peep-shows.

Can we ever be happy with who we're with?

Alimony is too high,
divorce is too expensive.
Marriage is too hard,
forever is too long.

Share your heart,
with every lover you have.
What happens when,
you have none left to give?

Get ready for the break,
dump another down the hole.
Can you stand the misery,
or just go on the rebound?

Life is too short,
happiness is too vague.
Love is too easy,
forever is too long.

Can we be satisfied with who we're with?

I think the language you use here is not only poetic, but the images and tone remarks well on current society's view of commitment.
