Posted by Michelle Angelini on 06/27/05 at 12:47 AM Thomas, your painful pleading to someone who doesn't want to hear you strikes my heart, because being hated by someone is much easier than being totally shut out. The first stanza uncovers the problem. Stanzas 2 & 4 are confessions of pride & an acceptance of Maylynn's decision. Stanza 3 is the turning point in the poem, because the narrator confesses more "sins," in addition to making one final plea for reconciliation. Divorce-at least the ones I know of-have never been pleasant and you portray this emotional rending without being overly dramatic.
