A Kiss Before Saying Goodbye

by Jersey D Gibson

Sorry baby, I had to go to work today,
something came up, I had to go.
My job is shit and I hate it,
but I do it just for you.

I know it's the weekend, shouldn't have to,
but you know that things just work that way.
Our life stinks and we both hate it,
but I do it just for you.

Looking at the smile upon your face,
helps me struggle through another day.
I'd wish I'd been more for you, always there,
but you seem happy all the same.

Sorry baby, I had to work late tonight,
rush hour can be such a bitch.
Work is far and I hate it,
but I do it just for you.

I'd promised I'd be there, you made dinner,
candles burnt to nubs late at night.
you smiled and took away all the stress,
and I do it just for you.

Looking at the smile upon your face,
helps me struggle through another day.
I'd wish I'd done more to show you,
how much I really cared.

Seeing your eyes lights up my day,
helps me deal through another night.
Smile at me, and I'll give you,
a kiss before saying goodbye.

Awww, Jersey, this is so tender and loving and sad. Sometimes life just gets in the way of the things and people we want most in our lives.

What a wonderful love poem...makes me think of the idea of "Don't be so busy making a living that you forget to make a life". Nicely done, Jersey!
