Inspiration (for DK) by Christina GleasonWe took the low stone wall easily,
stood shoulder to shoulder
and watched birds swoop,
paired and parallel,
riding in ribbons,
trails almost visible
in their low dip and high arch,
cyclic and intimate.
I slipped my arms around your waist
and the light of the river
circled us like a struck match,
its contained heat against
my breath on your neck
made me weak enough to need you;
and somewhere below the train bridge
and above High Falls,
we found we were small and
being only sure of our smallness,
we moved away in silence,
not trusting a push to the edge
and its slow, deep descent.
