sleepiness by Daniel PetersonIt requires a certain sleepiness,
I think,
to get back in touch with the past.
Which tells us something,
I'd say,
about how long old feelings can last.
Right before the balance is lost,
it seems,
we catch a glimpse of our needs
But send them spinning,
most times,
before learning what bides beneath.
We go on with our waking lives,
I fear,
to avoid filling in the color
That separates truth
from lines
and makes one know the other.
