Inner child by Brian Francis
I wonder sometimes whether he can see it too
When he looks into the mirror
Is the reflection always true
Does he see the lines and wrinkles
And the color of his hair
Or does he see only illusion
Through the mists that are not there
Does he stumble over that reflection
And see it for what it is
Does he taste in that reality
the bitter taste of sin
or does he keep his horrid secrets
hidden from even him
or do they haunt him day and night
echoes come unbidden
Starts that wake the sleeping from their rest
Moments rebounding from the past
Screaming through the mind
Sensations called from deep within
Erupting into this reality
Tears and sobs combine into a shuttering
Convulsion of terror long ago ended
Or is it just me?
