The Bound is Bound to Infringe

by Rula Shin

Daydream you may in your own little world
Refrain from deflecting your cheap images
In the open periphery of my world
Infringing my boundaries

In my world I dream of transcending borders
Acknowledging the reciprocal humane exchange
Turning dirt into beauty with a mutual caress
Walking willingly into your open spaces
If your world is path-less

My sense of civilized conduct compels
Me to undo what I want the other to abstain
Thrusting not my knife in your belly lest
I give you the right to reciprocate
Confine your refuse to your ward
Keep your dump off my yard

Come share your beautiful self with me
The essence of true poetry a fragrance
Worth every drop of nourishing intention
Leave me alone and I shall reciprocate
Honoring you as a nobody trying to catch
A cab on New YorkÂ’s bustling Broadway

Author's Note: Recent events on Pathetic knocked on my door and out came this poem. I have done my best to generalize my intake so that this transcends any person, place, or time. The poem deals with the problem of general human behavior which I attempted to express with a human touch.

rula this poem seems to me that you are a wonderful person :) human behavior is something strange, that i can never understand, but your images are so powerful. especially the cab, perfect match for your message

To know your limitations is to know yourself, eh. I suppose that comes with a bit of maturity and the refinement of a cannon gone awry. Expressive stuff, Rula. pe4ce...

'Daydream you may in your own little world yet refrain……'yes, the social fabric of this common belief system rests on this refrain. You have presented the basics of a social living in the most objective manner. And dealt this issue with a human touch. As individuals we are at certain liberties but these liberties are bounded by mutuality, in the common interest. You have so distinctly presented this point so eloquently-‘ the meaning of civilized behavior compels me to undo what I want the other to abstain I thrust not my knife in your belly lest I give you the right to reciprocate’. The society can survive only on this principle alone. The beauty of your heart manifests when you, despite denouncing such behavior pattern, offers a friendly hand to any one who believes in these basics-‘ Come share your beautiful self with me The essence of true poetry a fragrance Worth every drop of nourishing intention. lest…’ you succeeds in driving the point home. Man is a social animal, noted Aristotle, a ‘zoon politikon’ and a beast and a god is fit to live alone. Yes, a man cannot live alone and this inability makes him live in a group and interact, communicate and share. In sociological terms, this is what makes him form a family, a society and create a state. But the individual remains the basic founding father, though one of the most important pillars of the four, who burdens the weight of this human civilization. Can a civilized world sustain unrestrained individual rights? Can an individual infringe into fellow individuals boundaries? These are sociological issues and as conscious social beings we know-‘ the meaning of civilized behavior compels me to undo what I want the other to abstain’ and you don’t stop here, you go to the other extent to stress your point-‘ I thrust not my knife in your belly lest I give you the right to reciprocate ‘ In a civilized world we are confined to our boundaries and it can only expand in reciprocal ness. Our dream words are confine to our boundaries hence one is at liberty to dream what pleases one but the demarcation is ample clear-‘ refrain from deflecting your cheap images in the open periphery of my world infringing my boundaries’ There’s another beautiful aspect to this piece . The human touch. The positive approach to this issue. The objective out look. Yes, this is basically civilized human behavior offering- Come share your beautiful self with me The essence of true poetry a fragrance Worth every drop of nourishing intention’ but if one is not social enough, if one is not socially conscious enough, one should be honoured ‘ as a nobody trying to catch a bus on the twenty second street of London’. In nut shell this piece is a commentary on the basics of reciprocal social behavior. Nice job.The repetitions here are intentional to stress what I intend to. Full marks.

An intriguing and thought provoking challenge concerning civilized and humane human intercourse. It says to me that courtesy is a two way street but lack thereof will not be reciprocated. Plea that such lack of civilized conduct is not welcome. Very well expressed admonition and request.
