The Hum of a Heart

by Thomas K. Hunt

Lost in the silence from the hum
Long from the hearts that have made up my own
Behind the miles are the smiles that make up my home

Take me back
Summer in the afternoon
Lost in a treasure of pleasure
Between the islands and the drifting tunes

Lost in the warmth, the fun
Innocence held my hand
Each day a dress rehearsal
for the life with no plan

The road well traveled
leads back to the only place
To the other side of miles
Where the smiles are on faces
The names etched in stone
You can hear the hum from the hearts
that have made up my own
