Addict

by Jayme L Helmick

How silent you are!
Alone in your cell
Dreaming your dreams
Planning your life . . .
I feel careless
but cautious
Afraid to give you my heart
Knowing that you already have it.
You've woken me from the dead
Cast aside the shroud of despair
Breathed new life into me
My recovery is nothing
short of miraculous.
Others have tried
to break through my fortress -
They've all failed.
What magick do you possess
that you have possessed me so?
You're a constant in my thoughts
A tingling in my limbs
Ecstasy in my throat
And I am addicted to
your tenderness
your insistence
your devotion
You've captured my heart
in spite of me
And I soak you up like a sponge.
Ask me to day to take your name
as mine -
The answer is yes!
I give you my heart
I pledge you my life
And I am a better person

for loving you.
