To Climb Everest

by Ken Harnisch

We aspire to climb Everest,

You and I

But the pitons clanging on your belt,

The slender ropes across your back,

Are of little use to me

You use the air to soar astride

The alp

While I climb hand-over hand

Dreading stones that tear

Both fingertips and hearts

You will ascend the north face,

Bold and adventurous

While I lumber to the south

And seek the sun

Ever climbing leisurely

I doubt we will arrive

As one

Your breathless climbs

Have always marveled me

While mine get me there eventually

And when at last we stumble to

The summit

The anthems that we raise

May have the same inspiring words

But will be sung to different flags

We aspire to climb Everest
You and I

Perhaps it is enough to say

We share the dream

If not the way

Perhaps sharing the dream is more than enough. *soft smile*... I rather like this one Ken so very true to life...
