Watercolor Romance

by Jennifer L Banks

I wonder sometimes
where in my box of memories
do I put you?
Things I can’t recall with clarity;
kisses and visions and dreams.
Were you just a phantom?
Were you ever real?
Was nothing the truth?

I get so confused about the past four months.
Like watercolors,
all the pigments run together now.
All the things you said or did that made me smile
I can’t remember.

Everything has become so grey and murky.
You were just a phantom,
my paintbrush painted.
Some misty dragon,
on parchment paper.
