Perseverance by Kourosh Taheri-GolvarziWe'd gotten blindsided every day,
Hiding whenever blizzards came looking,
Rummaging valleys. Winds hitting, capsizing
Even ants, bringing uncounted branches
Down rather cynically, seeming to enjoy pillaging Mother Earth.
Many days later, things settled down.
Wanting to get started, we ate
Quickly and got suited for the mountains above
And chasms below, and, getting started,
Our frontman grappled the cracks.
There was no stop, no out. Just up.
Should one of our crew want out,
We'd let him, and he'd have to find
His own way down, and face the cliff.
This was for real. Our pride was on the line.
We would not turn back. No.
That tall, wide rock was ours. 05/24/2005 Author's Note: Inspired by the poem of a friend of mine
