the thing about raisins is this...

by Mary Ellen Smith

the thing
about raisins
is this.
they grow
on the vine
as grapes.
picked
dried
shriveled
and
puckered up....

the lucky ones
get covered in
chocolate.

Author's Note: A conversation that I had with my three year old grandgirl, Kate. She said I am a whole lot of silly. But I think that next time she has chocolate covered raisins she will see them in a whole new light...tee hee

A bit of whimsy, a bit of description, a bit of philosophy. (The point being most of them, regardless, end up being eaten! :) )
