Innocence

by Jeffrey Parren

Innocence is a snowy day,
Unexpected yet uplifting.
It blankets everything with
Feelings of warmth, even though
The nature of it all is inclement, cold.

Innocence is a sunset,
Colorful and exhilarating.
So vividly clear that the beauty
Of it all makes you stop.
Forget everything else.

Innocence is a good hug,
Bodies of love or friendship,
Of kindness or comforting,
Of celebration or necessity,
Bonded, forming one cause.

Innocence is Plato’s cavemen,
Shadows and voices perplex
Without dimension or touch.
Expose him and it shall be lost,
Existence infinitely traumatized.

Innocence is birth,
All that is known is minute.
Experience, knowledge, affection
Are all one and still nothing at all,
Just a blank piece of paper.
