To the Person I've Always Wanted

by Jeffrey Parren

To be or not to be,
The things that I have wanted,
To write like William himself,
With dreamy and lovely language,
To have the drive to do so, I write
In the name of ambition. Talking
The talk and using the cliché are
One in the different. I yearn
To be that someone people look
Up upon, with admiration.
As I watch ESPN, dreaming of heroes,
But not those on the TV, they are
Role models undeserving, the spotted
Light that looms, like asking an animal
To stop being an animal, I wonder what
It must be like to influence so many.
Money to survive shall suffice. All
I’d like to do is one day become
What I have always wanted, look
Back and see that the path taken
Was worthy of praise; heroic.

Author's Note: Another poem I came across...written last year...during my "why I write" and "who I will touch" silly mode of thought. Yet it may be silly, the writing is pure and correct...
