what was it before i sat down? or life changes don't it?

by Charlie Morgan

life changed after i sat down,
so what was it before?
wasn't the same,
i didn't see it move;
i see something moving.

"it used to be", "it once was"...
expressions of a yesteryear
gone in a forever loop
never to return,
another pile of forgottens.

i sort thru files of me,
trying for the right fit;
the one that i can use everyday,
but a flash is the length
and breadth of it.

"thank you" echoing silently in octogenarian ears,
while the numbing uncaring dissonance of "here go!"
shatters the de facto quiet
taking the void of pleasantry,
wrestling it til dormancy.

"you're welcome" bounces soundlessly in cold matter
as "not a problem" assumes the vacated place
and postures nicely to all young ears
that with avarice of First, therefore
learn well the harsh-ruled game of life--change.

words are the pivot of it,
the daily, required, offered
greetings from the Accoutrement
of Being and forging ever-foolishly forward,
trepidation being a word unheard, unthought.

flattened, the earth's cells are weighted
by dumbness, ennui, as plants seek conversation
and grow tentacles to ford-off human foragers
who know only to eat, not when to quit
and can not discern another's hand from theirs.

planet of the apes, no longer a metaphor;
a firm grip of ignorance in humanity has evolved
into a healthy giant of stupidity
who is kind to old people
only thru the vehicle of death.

stay still until awakened and then
you can shake your hand
at the Heavens and at that point
in time if nothing happens,
a different terror might come to you.
