Always taking off and touching down by Tricia Marie MielFlying now
leaving time standing still
suspended between imaginary lines
of longi(ng)tude
for a soft place to land
and lay down my load
I travel light
yet my heart is heavy
being pulled by the gravity
of possibly
crashing and burning
without ever knowing
what it means to be on cloud nine
though by now we've passed the 30,000 ft. line
And I'd throw my daydreams out the window
if I knew they'd land
on your dot on the map
and you'd shine your beacon up
a grounded star
to catch wingless wishes
and from them plant me
my heaven on earth
But reality's seatbelt has a way
of tying me down
and at the speed I'm going
it's hard to keep up
with connecting the dots
of the cities I pass
And so I lean back
close my eyes and mentally unpack
as I surrender to the wings of steel
to bring me back to earth
until wanderlust my siren calls
always taking off and touching down
