Iraq: Stop/Loss Program

by Jersey D Gibson

Back in Vietnam,
you were drafted for two years.
When your time was short,
you left.

Now in Iraq,
my End Time of Service is up.
So can you explain to me,
why I'm here?

I'm five months past,
living on borrowed time.
Got ten more months to do,
fighting on borrowed time.

Looking forward to home,
so I can stay for three months.
Looking forward to getting out,
what I've should have already done.

I haven't re-uped, don't wanna stay,
just turn in my gear and go.
Stop/Lost into next year,
or maybe the year after?

Author's Note: Stop/Loss - when a unit deploys, you deploy. No matter when you leave. It's usually three months before a deployment, and three months after you get back. Some people have been Stop/Lost up to two years.
