The Twin Brothers

by Ashok Sharda

______________

They are twins
At loggerheads
When one speaks
The other keeps silence

The paradox is
That one lives in speaking
The other in silence

05/04/2005

Author's Note:

I wished to ponder in silence
What emerged within is
The brother of silence

Yes, one lives in speaking, the other in silence...but who is the silent one and who is the one that speaks when it's silence that speaks most? That is the paradox. That's what I saw. As always your writing is so compelling, so challenging no matter the length or succinctness (is that a word? haha)...I love this and you are brilliant.

The silence of our quiet twin is deafening. And the noise of our talking twin gets lost in the babble of life! So true. So honest.

Do both hands make a sound when clapping, or is the sound from just one? Anyhow I clap for this poem....Charlie

They are two parts of a whole. One is yin, the other is yang. Maybe they are at "loggerheads" but without one the other would not exist. Thanks for the mental challenge in your poetry Ashok.

You express succinctly and clearly of the paradox in which many of us find ourselves. (Some are so introverted they never find voice. Some are so extroverted they never find themselves!) Most of us, I think, live with the paradox.
