Vocalization

by Amanda Bullington

throat constricted
voice box trying helplessly
to slide its natural path
up and down - stopped by
taut solid muscles

words strangled on the
lips of a minor,
suffocating in saliva
and mucus - stifled so
no one else will hear

She sits, head upon
her lifeless arms,
Facedown; features
Contorted from her
Failed attempts at
          Vocalization.

Amanda, the last stanza really sums it up. Good work. I like the format of the poem - the physical, the frustration, and finally the total despair.
