circle o' friends

by Charlie Morgan

It’s another girls’ week-end – away from home
kickin’ ass and ready to roam.
Traveling the Hill Country no place
we had rather be, looking for
wildflowers and a place to pee.
Hiking the Perdenales, sippin’ the wine,
getting to Cave Springs in time to dine.

Shrimp was great, movie too – visiting
with old friends with a hilltop view.
Texas cedar, fossils and beer – in P.J.’s
and flip flops we looked for rock souvenirs.

“Everbody is somebody in Lukenback “
so they say, Jimmy Lee and Lucky made
us feel that way.

Stopped for more rocks and Mexican food
on the way home, then decided to write
this poem.

This is the story of a Circle of Friends –
the road goes on forever and the party
never ends.

this may be very juvenile of me...but circle o' friends instantly reminded me of girls' slumber parties...and then of course the PJ's had to come out and wine and (insert male fantasy here)...perhaps very juvenile, but, I too, wish I was there, to at least just see it...~JPP
