Unfinished Fire

by Jennifer L Banks

You wandered in from the cold winter wind of my life.
I let you in and closed the door behind you.
Your voice warmed my bones like a roaring fire.
Like flames that warm, there is another side to it all.
3rd degree burns take time to heal and leave scars.
You don’t have time to stay, there are other hearts to warm.
All that I am left with is cold grey ash.
Only you can stir the ashes and create the spark again.
