Final Minutes Above Ground

by Jeffrey Parren

The crescent of men standing
All pointing attention to the same ideal
A husband
A son
A brother
A brother
A brother
A brother
Six men, raised, groomed, formed
By an incredible woman
Eyes coated with a watery film
Paying homage to the fallen

Author's Note: Even with differences...my mom managed to bring together people who didn't speak to one another...

Beautiful and incredibly touching and hopeful. Many women are so much stronger than they are given credit for, so brave and beautiful and full of depth and dimension. If only more men would see them in the light you see your mother in. This dedication to your mother is simply a testament to how much love she must have shown you and all the men in her life. This is a meaningful tribute indeed, very beautiful.

Reading this one was hard. Your Mom was a rare jewel. I'm glad you realized that.
