Darkness by Richard VinceAnd she wakes, and opens her eyes
Tiptoes over to the window
The Sun rises, and the light
Fills her soul, and the city below
A light so bright that she still sees it
Even when her eyes are closed
She held so much darkness
In her heart, inside her soul
It took away her life
Smothered her soul
Robbed her of herself
Her heart was not her own
Filled with lack of love
And her mind was not her own
Polluted with alien thoughts
And her life was not her own
A meaningless chain of empty days
A path littered with broken dreams
But dreams can live again.
The light has filled her days
Breathed love into her heart
Cleansed her mind of sadness
And repaired her dreams
And now, she spreads her wings for the first time
They were always there, always hers
But she didnt know before
The reason for their existence
As she flies for the first time
She knows that she is no angel
But she smiles
She has found life.

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 04/22/05 at 07:43 PM Richard, I totally love this poem, because this is my story. You write with such sensitivity and understanding, that it appears as if you know this woman. Excellent work!
