Creation of a Better World

by Amanda Bullington

Never will I buy the world for you; too impersonal.

Instead I'll create a new world of ore and sylvan,
Placing it beside your window: on display, only
Visible to you:

I'll soak your floors with cotton candy and stuff
Your pillows with the dew clouds are made from.
Those briny tears spilled over your bedsheets will
Reek no longer. I'll trade your tears for sugar
Water containing pure sweetness, sans disappointment.

Never again will you be afraid to cry; you'll never
Be lonely. The life breathed in by your home will
Replace its silences with carousel music, as if the
World were a stage for songs and dancing.

Never will I buy the world for you.
But I can perfect this one, and make it yours.
