If ...

by Charlie Morgan

if, and when, i learn to write,

i might

choose to be like
some others you've read.

or instead,

maybe i'll be totally staid and wacky,
may not rhyme any of my lines.

may not stay in beat or time,
might color outside the lines.

might write like Chaucer and piss off the Pope.
i bet some would hope.

could copy them, those that don't
could write in free-verse but i won't.

so, if and when, i learn to write,
i might
light
like a Hummingbird
outside your window;
and dart around you
with wings fluttering,
all the time stuttering
to get your attention.

still, like he i strive
hoping i can survive
until finally i've arrived

well, that is,
if i just learn to write.

If...small word...big possibilities -you've covered all of them perfectly.

Such creativity in this! Love the image of the hummingbird.
