Reawakening

by Richard Vince

Against the dark background
Of another day's bad news
My ears savour the light
That radiates from your voice.

The joy in your eyes, born of
The sight of an old friend,
Finds a path to my soul
Through the empty city air
On this cold spring day.

I feel the weight of too many
Waking hours lift from
My heavy eyelids as
Some of that unfathomable
Force of life pours from
Your soul into mine.

You may be little more
Than a face upon which
My eyes briefly alight
Then immediately forget,
But something about you
Has reawakened that part
Of me that once felt
The joy and the pain that
Radiated from strangers.

A section of my soul that
Has faded slowly through
The years shines once more
At full brilliance.
Something whose absence
I have long felt
Has returned.

I love it when that happens. Beautiful poem as always doll. Reminded me of sitting out on campus during the first days of spring and watching the crowds walk past, knowing some, not knowing most and remaining unnoticed by all. Thank you for the memmory!
