had a poem eaten today

by Charlie Morgan

Had A Poem Eaten Today

Well, like I said, “I had a poem eaten today.”
(Piss me off it did and I’m just warning all you
That in the ionosphere—the netherworld,
You can become cannibalized; some of yourself eaten too.

The words were there, then poof! They were gone.
Did I mention these were words I owned.
I made them up, from thin air you could say
At least I borrowed them for a short stay.

Had them in my finger tips, my mind, my soul
Borrowed or not, still I had a hold
Of them for a short while
And then like a tempered child,
Scolded, I had pain, no smile.
I’ll piss and moan for sometime hence,
And for sure I’ll climb back and thence
Begin again the THING I started
Borrowing from here, stealing from there
Until, like Frankenstein, patched-up fair
I’ll present them again in a somewhat changed form
And kick the ionosphere and all its storm.
‘Cause its got my words and holding them ransom
so when I post again, it’ll be ever so handsome.

I’ll get me some words and then I’ll pour
Them out to you and say what I did before.
But this time
I’ll find
The SAVE button.)

I know the feeling...having your words kidnapped by a blank page maddening...
