"But You Did"

by Max Phineas

You never had to sit there
And look into my eyes
Drowning my sorrows with your glimmering smile

But you did

You didn’t need to hold me
And lock me in your arms
When my world was shattered like mirrors in an earthquake

But you did

And you didn’t have to kiss me
(My lips were trembling at your touch)
Bringing me home as long as I could smell you

But you did

And I would too

I like your poem, Cole. It has a very quiet nature of gratitude, depth, and friendship. Very well said and on my favorites list.

What a fantastic thing to read at the end of a hard day! Such pure emotion, I like the symetry of the lines, the stanzas. Can't wait till my lips tremble at the touch of a new lover. What a cool feeling - what a cool poem.
