Exapolis Sonnet

by Kourosh Taheri-Golvarzi

Now look, my friend, there's nowhere we can go.
Our feet are shackled to this wretched Earth,
And all that's good has tantalized us so
Without regard for us, has shown it's worth
The journey. Were we there, we'd bathe in mirth.
We'd ride through wormholes strewn through cosmic sense,
Then know the warp of this arena's girth
And learn our housing, free of roof or fence,
But look, my friend, our chains are cast down hence!
Now us the stars do vigorously pull.
We must traverse this city, hither thence,
Exapolis, the universe in full.
This hyperbolic sky no longer baits
us, friend! Arise! Exapolis awaits!

Author's Note: This is my attempt at turning my poem, "Exapolis", into a Spenserian Sonnet. I started writing this in High School a few months after I wrote the original "Exapolis", finished the first and third quatrains and the couplet, and I promptly forgot I was writing it and it just floated around in my room with me for the next 4 years. I came across it last night and thought "Hey! I forgot I was writing this!" So I finished it early this morning. Hope you enjoy!
