A Night in the Park by Kourosh Taheri-GolvarziThe gems are out tonight, and here we are,
Reclining up against the cedar trees,
Relaxing with the hills around the car
And getting drunk from flowers in the breeze:
A myriad of hues parading through
The air. Affected? Never, as our time
Is valuable and in no hurry. You
Should have no reason to be scared. We'll climb
To safety, calling out for help, and if
We can't find help, we'll stay here with the stars
Here at the bottom of this jagged cliff
And from my car clear smoke and metal shards
From when we died while swerving past the tree.
Yeah, here we are tonight, love, you and me. 04/07/2005 Author's Note: wrote this in class in 15 minutes

| Posted by Kim Bennett on 09/04/05 at 05:31 AM You should be with me when I die, and just keep repeating that so I won't be so frightened. The flow of the poem is perfect. The imagery and word choice, also. The best part is that you made dying beautiful, even when the death was gruesome. |
