Race With Lies

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

Fool that I am

I try to pretend

I can handle this

Your taste

Your skin

starting to win

who am I kidding?

I know better

yet

I pretend to forget

WHO AM I KIDDING?

knowing I can't swim

still I jump in

eager to drown

in your depths

breathe caught inside

why why why?

Do I do this?

A fool once again

I know I can't win

this race with lies

Yes indeed, there is no winning "this race with lies" though one can trick himself into believing he is all the time getting closer to the finish when in truth he runs in the other direction. I really like the way you begin this piece with, "fool that I am" for this represents a certain amount of wisdom as no fool will recognize himself as a fool. I find this poem to be beautiful in its attempt at introspection and self understanding. Great job! :-)

Yes, as Rula has put it rightly, a fool cannot realize he is a fool . This realization it self is so beautiful, a begining. But there are obstacles in the shape of our own selves, who so easily gets energized by their associations and takes charge of us as us.Conflict is the only course, with a predetermined decision to WIN. Conflict is the only solace and proof of the fact that we are alive. I see this conflict here.
