American Soldier; Endangered Species

by Jersey D Gibson

Have we done this before?
Life seems to get tougher,
just about everyday.
Wearing me out,
stress building all the way.
Swords on all sides,
which will be the first strike?
No more walls to back against,
stuck my head on a pike.

Something's got to give...?
Sand in my eyes,
and I can't see anymore.
Sandblast my mind,
and I can't take anymore.
Sand in my mouth,
I can't scream anymore.
Sand in my soul,
weighing me down, forever more.

Are we the right species?
are we really the final choice?

Darwinism on a global scale,
who are we to pay the price?

Felt like I've been here before...
Stuck in a rut,
no way to get out.
So low on gas,
no I can't make it out.
So black on patience,
feels like I could snap.
So lack on respect,
so tired of getting shot at.

Play with my life again...
Bullets on Broadway,
death fills these cracked streets.
Women and children,
pour out so they can weep.
So why they hide,
bombs in their clothes?
Just to defend myself,
bring their lives to a close.

Are we the right species?
the final arbitratiors of life?

Murder on an epoch scale,
who are we to make the sacrifice?
