before you were born

by Charlie Morgan

what did you look like before you were born?
did you have fingers, toes, nose and such?
were you warm, soft, velvety to the touch?
maybe lost in amniocentricity; a world untorn?

what did you do before the spark of creation ignited?
were you grinning at the future you already knew?
were you smiling while through gestation you flew?
maybe like a taperstick, a candle yet lighted?

did you squirm getting free from the restraining dark?
were calm before the storm, an awaiting sound and fury?
a child-man, child-woman forming in fluids, no hurry?
mayhaps you were gifted and have the song of a lark?

still today yor're here, marching to glory
of this thing called Life, path of joy and pain,
walking under clouds of shelter, clouds of rain.
you can stumble, trip; get up again--not to worry.

you're unique ... just another person, a blessing.
for who you meet along life's way is mirroring you
and in this style of fashion is what you are, and do.
the smile you wear needs be your only dressing.
