another fish in the sea

by Tricia Marie Miel

your shoreline beckons
this restless heart
crashing waves
mirror the turbulence of crashing thoughts
i wondered if your depths were sympathetic

so i channeled myself onto your dreamstream
so i could see as you have seen
and i dove as deep as my breath would take me
but your subtle mystery
knocked it out of me
and replaced it
with butterflies.

once again i was back on the shore
sifting the sand in search of seashells
that would whisper your secrets
only to find hermit crabs.

i was never good at masking my feelings.

i warned you to tread lightly
you pinned me with a flippant gaze
that said you saw right through to the bottom of me
and jumped in

you almost drowned.

crystal clear is not the same as shallow.

i showed you so.

Tricia...I really love this poem. Comparing love to a beach/ocean and water is done with clever accuracy to keeping the mood and understanding..."crystal clear is not the same as shallow" to me is the most powerful line, glad it was saved for the end. Great job!
